Root Canal

Suffering from severe tooth pain? Your tooth may be infected. If not treated soon, you may even lose it.

A root canal performed by Dr. David Babb of Beaufort River Dental in Beaufort, SC, can relieve symptoms and save your tooth from extraction.

If you have a painful, infected tooth, Dr. David Babb is the right choice to treat the infection and restore your oral health...

Five Benefits of Root Canal Treatment

Relieve Pain

Removing infected, inflamed pulp with a root canal can provide immediate relief from your discomfort.

Avoid Extraction

If the blood vessels, nerves, and connective tissue in the pulp of your tooth are too severely infected or damaged by trauma, extracting the infected tooth may be the best way to save the rest of your smile. However, a timely root canal procedure can save your tooth.

Prevent Need for Further Treatments

The extraction of infected teeth means Dr. Babb may need to replace them with a bridge or implant-supported restorations. If your tooth is saved with a root canal, though, there is no need for additional, expensive treatment.

Stops Infection Spread

Without a root canal, an infection can spread. Bacterial decay can potentially create a large enough cavity that it can infect your gums and neighboring teeth.

A Closer Look at the Root Canal Procedure

During a root canal procedure, our dentist Dr. Babb creates a small hole in the tooth and removes the infected tissue within.

Why Choose Dr. Babb for Root Canal Treatment?

Takes on Tough Cases

Unlike some dentists, Dr. Babb regularly performs root canals on difficult-to-treat teeth such as anterior teeth and pre-molars. Other dentists may send you to an endodontist for your root canal because these teeth can take longer to treat.

Values Your Time

Dr. Babb knows you do not want to wait around a dentist office all day. He will do everything he can to keep a punctual schedule so your root canal will start on time.

Uses Advanced Technology

Dr. Babb uses high-tech 3-D imaging, digital x-rays, same-day CEREC® restorations, and the best materials in dentistry to give you the most comfortable, effective, safe, and pain-free dental treatments possible.

Performs Multiple Procedures

Dr. Babb is skilled at performing everything from root canals to dental implant surgery. If a root canal can not save your infected tooth, Dr. Babb can educate you about other effective procedures that he can perform in his Beaufort office

Can Save You Money

Not having to see specialists like endodontists or oral surgeons for various treatments saves you time and money.

The Root Canal Treatment

A root canal procedure is actually pretty simple and usually only takes one appointment. Dr. Babb is a highly educated dentist with extensive experience performing root canals, so there is no need for you see a specialist like an endodontist.

Day of Procedure

Dr. Babb will take precise 3-D digital x-rays of the infected tooth to examine its root canals. He will also check to see if bacteria spread to the bone tissue.

After numbing the area to ensure your comfort, Dr. Babb will make a small opening in the crown of your tooth using a special rotary device.

Dr. Babb will then use a specialized dental tool to thoroughly scrub and remove infected pulp from the root canals. He will also flush the root canals out. He may apply an antibiotic and disinfectant inside the empty canals as well.

Once all infected pulp is gone, Dr. Babb will fill the empty root canals with a sealant and rubber compound to keep bacteria out. The compound helps strengthen the interior of the tooth.

You may need a restoration to protect the affected tooth. While you relax in comfort, Dr. Babb can create a beautiful, customized crown to protect your tooth using our our in-house CEREC® same-day software and milling system. This saves you from coming back for another appointment.

Do Root Canals Hurt?

Barely, if at all. Check out this reassuring statistic from the National Library of Medicine:

"54 % of patients experienced no pain during a root canal"

Dr. Babb is considered to be an extremely compassionate dentist with a gentle touch. Many of his Beaufort, SC, patients say they do not even feel the numbing injections he gives them before their root canals or any other procedures.

More High Praise for Dr. David Babb "Dr. Babb and his staff are so awesome."
