Dental Implants at Beaufort
River Dental Can Transform Your Life

A missing tooth or teeth does more than just have an effect on the appearance of your smile: it can have a tremendous impact on your oral and overall health, as well. The roots of a tooth not only hold it in place, but also provide vital signals to the bone tissue in your jaw, keeping it strong and healthy. When you lose a tooth, the lack of stimulation causes your jawbone to begin to deteriorate. As this atrophy continues, it can cause a whole host of issues as your surrounding teeth begin to shift. Left untreated, as your teeth shift further, your face will begin to appear sunken and aged beyond your years. Additional tooth loss will result if enough bone loss occurs, which only exacerbates further atrophy and tooth loss.

Fortunately, the titanium or ceramic posts of dental implants function as bionic tooth roots, providing the necessary signals to stop further bone loss and keep your jawbone healthy and strong. Dental implants from our Beaufort, SC, dentistry practice can restore both your appearance and your health. Whether you need to replace a single tooth or an entire dental arch, our dentist Dr. David Babb can help.

Absolutely fantastic! I practiced dentistry for 40 years before retiring. My only hope is that I gave my patients the same welcoming and excellent care I received from Dr Babb and his wonderful staff yesterday. The hygienist, Callie is the best ever with her thorough gentle cleaning. The office is immaculate and totally updated to offer their patients the best in dental care. You will not be disappointed!

Am I a Good Candidate for Dental Implants?

The majority of patients are good candidates for dental implants. However, there are a number of factors that may impact your candidacy. If you are suffering from the ill effects of missing teeth, our dentist can evaluate your candidacy at our Beaufort, SC, dental office.

Lack of Jawbone Density

If you have been missing teeth for an extended period, you may have low bone density in your jaw. If this is the case, a bone grafting procedure can restore your candidacy.

Tobacco Use

It is no secret that smoking is bad for your health. Since smoking inhibits your body's ability to heal it increases your risk of implant failure. You will need to quit for several months before implant surgery.

Gum Disease

To provide a stable platform for the titanium or ceramic implant posts your gums need to be healthy. If you have periodontal disease you will need treatment before you can receive implants

Other Health Concerns

Autoimmune disorders such as diabetes can increase risks during surgery and inhibit the healing process. Dr. Babb will review your medical history to ensure you are healthy enough to undergo implant surgery.

The Gold-Standard in Restorative Dentistry

If you are worried about the cost of implants, we offer patients, "pay as you go" payment plans where you pay step-by-step during the process. Our ultimate goal is to help you achieve optimal oral health so that you can enjoy the benefits of a beautiful smile.

Initial Surgery

Dr. Babb will administer anesthesia to ensure your surgery is virtually pain-free. He will then make small incisions in your gums, and using a 3-D printed guide specific to your smile, place the titanium or ceramic implant post.

First Healing Period

During the next four to six months, the implant posts will fuse with the bone tissue in your jaw during a process call osseointegration. Once fully fused, the implant will effectively become a part of your jawbone.

Abutment Placement

A small metal device called abutment allows your prosthetic to attach to the implant. During a second surgery, Dr. Babb will attach an abutment to your dental implant.

Second Healing Period

The recovery time for abutment placement is generally much shorter than the initial surgery. You should be fully recovered in 10 to 12 weeks.

Abutment Placement

After osseointegration is complete, small metal devices called abutments will be placed. These allow your prosthetic to attach to the implant. Once your gums have healed, Dr. Babb will provide a permanent crown, bridge, or denture to fully complete your smile.

Final Restoration Placement

Dr. Babb will attach your crown, bridge, or denture to the abutment, completing your smile restoration. We will take special care to color-match your new prosthetic so that it blends seamlessly with your natural teeth.
