Dental Crowns

Weak, broken, or decayed teeth can affect your appearance and compromise your oral health.

Dental crowns are custom, tooth-shaped caps that fit over the entire tooth structure, adding strength and protection.

Learn how Dr. David Babb can place a high-quality, porcelain crown in a single visit at our Beaufort, SC, practice.

Whether you need root canal therapy, require a dental implant, or need to treat a large cavity, a dental crown can be an excellent way to complete your smile.

Dental Crowns Can Repair Your Teeth
For Lifelike Results

Restore and Protect

Dental crowns can reinforce damaged teeth that cannot be repaired with fillings or porcelain inlays and onlays.

Durable and Reliable

Dr. Babb uses medical-grade porcelain and ceramics, such as lithium disilicate, to ensure maximum strength.

Natural-Looking Results

Advanced porcelain materials mimic the translucency of natural tooth enamel, delivering truly lifelike results.

How Are Dental Crowns Placed?

First, your dentist reshapes the affected tooth and takes dental impressions. Once the crown is crafted, it will be bonded permanently onto the tooth.

Same-Day Dental Crowns Are More Convenient Without Sacrificing Quality

Traditional crowns typically require multiple visits to the dental office, but our dentist utilizes state-of-the-art CEREC® technology so our patients can receive their crown in just one appointment. Not only does this offer better convenience, but it also eliminates the need for a temporary crown, which can add time and cost to your dentistry treatment.

Consultation

First, Dr. Babb will evaluate your smile and goals and confirm that a dental crown is the best solution. In addition to a visual examination, he will also take x-rays of the tooth to determine the extent of the damage.

Preparing the Tooth

Next, any decayed or damaged portions of the tooth will be removed. The tooth will also be prepped for your dental crown, a process that requires some removal of natural enamel. Dr. Babb uses conservative techniques to preserve as much tooth structure as possible.

Dental Impressions

Once the tooth has been prepped, dental impressions will be taken using our advanced CEREC handheld wand. This device captures images of your tooth and sends the data to our computer software program.

Crown Fabrication

Once the impression images have been uploaded to our computer software, Dr. Babb designs your new crown according to the unique anatomy of the tooth. The information is then sent to our in-office milling machine, which carves your dental crown from a solid block of medical-grade ceramic.

Crown Placement

Once the fabrication process is complete, Dr. Babb will assess the fit, color, and look of your new crown. Next, he will bond it into place using high-quality dental cement. There is no need for a temporary crown. You will walk out of our office with a new permanent restoration.
In some rare instances, your dentist may need to send your case off to a trusted dental lab partner. In these cases, it will take two office visits to complete your crown treatment. A temporary crown will be placed in the meantime. This helps protect the tooth while chewing and prepare the gums until the lab fabricates the final porcelain restoration.

Custom porcelain crowns are durable and look incredibly lifelike.
