Dental Crowns Can Repair Your Teeth
for Lifelike Results

Restore and Protect

Dental crowns can reinforce damaged teeth that cannot be repaired with fillings or porcelain inlays and onlays.

Durable and Reliable

Dr. Babb uses medical-grade porcelain and ceramics, such as lithium disilicate, to ensure maximum strength.

Natural-Looking Results

Advanced porcelain materials mimic the translucency of natural tooth enamel, delivering truly lifelike results.

How Are Dental Crowns Placed?

First, your dentist reshapes the affected tooth and takes dental impressions. Once the crown is crafted, it will be bonded permanently onto the tooth.

How Common Are Dental Crowns?

According to the American Academy of implant dentistry, 15 million Americans have crowns or bridges to replace missing teeth, making this a fairly common procedure.

There are many reasons why you might need a crown, ranging from tooth breakage to tooth loss. Naturally, it makes sense that dental crown placement is so common.

When you choose our office, you won't have to wait for your new restoration, thanks to our CEREC® same-day crown machine. Meet our skilled dentist, Dr. Babb, to see why crowns are such an effective solution.

Dr. Babb and his team are absolutely wonderful. The day before a very big interview for me, my crown broke. Dr. Babb graciously made me an appointment before regular business hours due to his full schedule. With such short notice, the exact way my tooth broke required ingenuity, creativity, and innovative expertise, all of which Dr. Babb has an abundance of.

I broke a cap recently and did not have a local dentist. I chose Beaufort River based on their 5 star reviews. They scheduled me for a consultation within 24 hours, but once in the chair Dr. Babb decided to proceed with the replacement. Two hours, start to finish with an exact match on the front cap. Amazing. So was the staff. And he caught some potential issues as well. I’ve found my local dentist.

Same-Day Dental Crowns Are More Convenient Without Sacrificing Quality

hand prepping crown in CEREC machine
Traditional crowns can require multiple visits to the dental office, but our dentist utilizes state-of-the-art CEREC technology so our patients can receive a crown in one appointment. Not only does this offer better convenience, but it also eliminates the need for a temporary crown, which can add time and cost to your dentistry treatment.

Procedure Timeline: What to Expect

We utilize our CEREC Primescan technology to deliver a beautiful IPS e.max® or lithium disilicate crown in one appointment.

Consultation

First, Dr. Babb will evaluate your smile and goals and confirm that a dental crown is the best solution. In addition to a visual examination, he will take X-rays of the tooth to determine the extent of the damage.

Preparing the Tooth

Next, any decayed or damaged portions of the tooth will be removed. The tooth will also be shaped to accommodate your dental crown, a process that requires the removal of some enamel. Dr. Babb uses conservative techniques to preserve as much tooth structure as possible.

Dental Impressions

Once the tooth has been prepped, we will take impressions. We usually take digital impressions as they are more comfortable. The images of your tooth will then be sent to our computer.

Crown Fabrication

Dr. Babb will design your new crown according to the unique structure of your tooth. The design will then be sent to our in-office milling unit, which carves your dental crown from a solid block of medical-grade ceramic.

Crown Placement

Once the fabrication process is complete, Dr. Babb will assess the fit, color, and look of your new crown. Next, he will bond it into place using high-quality dental cement. There is no need for a temporary crown. You will walk out of our office with a new permanent restoration.

What if I Don't Qualify for a CEREC Crown?

It's rare, but your dentist may need to send your case off to a trusted dental lab. In these cases, it will take two office visits to complete your crown treatment. Don't worry — relief is still on the way. Your treatment process will look slightly different if you don't qualify for a same-day crown, but rest assured, you will leave our office with your tooth protected. A temporary crown will be placed in the meantime, so you don't have to go another day without restored function.

This temporary crown will help protect your tooth while chewing and prepare the gums until the lab fabricates your permanent porcelain restoration.

Seek Treatment Immediately From Our Understanding Team

Our team is proud to offer emergency services to patients who are experiencing problems like tooth decay or intense pain from an infected root canal. In cases such as these, we can provide you with treatment to remove any decayed tissue or infection from your tooth and create a porcelain crown to strengthen and protect your tooth.

Time is of the essence, but our Beaufort dental team offers immediate help in the form of same-day crowns to patients who qualify.

Maintaining Your New Dental Crown

On average, dental crowns last between five and 15 years. To prolong the life of your restoration and keep your mouth healthy, follow the guidelines recommended by our Beaufort, SC, dental team.
Woman flossing

Practice Good Oral Hygiene

While a crown cannot decay, the tooth structure underneath can so it is important to brush twice a day and floss daily. Without proper oral hygiene, you will place yourself at a higher risk for tooth decay, gum disease, and crown failure.

Mouthguard

Protect Your Smile

If you play contact sports, wear a mouthguard during games and practices to protect your smile. You should also consider wearing a custom night guard while you sleep, particularly if you suffer from bruxism, or chronic teeth grinding.

Avoid Bad Habits

Never, ever use your teeth (or your dental crowns) to open packages or tear tags off of clothing. Other bad habits, such as biting your nails or chewing on ice, should also be avoided. This will help prevent damage and keep your smile healthy.
